Our dream 10 days at Soneva Kiri

My husband and I had previously stayed at Soneva Kiri on our honeymoon. We were therefore familiar with the « honeymoon » services of the place. But this time, accompanied by our children, we were delighted to rediscover this superb destination from a family perspective.

After a few days in Bangkok, we boarded the hotel’s private jet to KhoKut Island, where the eco-resort we had so enjoyed in the past is located. The journey and view from above were as we remembered: un-be-lie-va-ble! We flew over the turquoise waters of the Indian Ocean, dozens of bays and tropical forests preserved from mass tourism. The children watched speechless as the landscapes rolled by. It was obvious they were taking it all in. The holidays were finally starting!

Our plane landed on the landing strip of the adjoining island. One of the hotel’s private boats at anchor was waiting to bring us straight to the village. Overlooked by a lush natural setting, the resort features some forty intimate and comfortable villas. We remembered the pleasant feeling of setting foot in a unique and exclusive holiday resort.

Arriving at the hotel, we knew the drill already. Neither one nor two, we took off our shoes and those of our children. Immediately after taking off their shoes, our private butler, popularly known as « friday » after Robinson Crusoe’s partner, warmly welcomed us. She gave us matching mobile phones without Internet connection, in case we needed to communicate urgently with the outside world. The objective of a stay at Soneva Kiri is the same: disconnect, rejuvenate, and enjoy the moment to the fullest, far from daily routines. We love this philosophy. It is the perfect definition of what we were looking for in a family vacation.

The hotel has two children’s clubs: the mini club « Eco Den » for toddlers (where everything is well secured and supervised by loving nannies), and the kids’ club « Den », dedicated to the entertainment of older children. The children’s club takes the form of a tree house with several living rooms, each dedicated to a particular activity such as singing, drawing or DIY. Our children were not bored for a second! Our eldest loved discovering nature through eco-pedagogical workshops in which children discussed the topics of recycling and preservation of the planet, two ecological values that are close to our hearts as parents. Meanwhile, my husband and I were having fun at the beach and enjoying the facilities of the Six Senses spa.

To our astonishment, we were upgraded to a beautiful villa with a superb toboggan that plunged straight into a private pool. The children were thrilled, so were Mom and Dad… We had safety concerns about some parts of the villa. We called on the hotel’s technical team, who immediately came to install additional barriers. Outstanding responsiveness! Families lodging at Soneva Kiri have the opportunity to privatize an open-air cinema located on a lake in the middle of the island. This unique experience really appealed to our children. During the film, we ate some hot popcorn and shared some soft drinks. We laughed a lot, curled up against each other. This is probably our most beautiful memory…

Once again, we left Soneva Kiri with heads full of new and unforgettable memories. This small tropical paradise is entirely designed for couples and families who would like to get together and share precious moments of intimacy, free from the outside world and in complete simplicity. It is certain that we will return again to Soneva Kiri.
