Discover Catalonia at Hostal de la Gavina

We stayed at Hostal De La Gavina for 5 days at the end of April 2022. The timing and weather were perfect for visiting the Costa Brava. Although summer is also a great option, I found late April and May (and even June) to be better times, as it’s not too hot and the beaches are (almost) empty!

The hotel gave us a warm welcome and offered us a Junior Suite, with a soft king-size bed, a sitting area with sofa and table, and a large, luxurious marble bathroom. The very large terrace has two sun loungers and is the perfect place to enjoy wonderful afternoons overlooking the lush gardens.

The hotel has a very relaxed and charming atmosphere. Although the style and decor are both classic and a little busy (you really do feel like you’re in a 50s film when you walk around, and even like a real lord when you get into bed), the ambience is chic and modern – it really is a timeless hotel that has played host to some of the world’s greatest. And today, it continues to pamper guests of all ages!

There are 5 restaurants to choose from, including the famous ‘La Taberna del Mar’, right on the beach, which serves delicious Spanish tapas, paellas and grilled fish. Poolside Italian is a great choice for lunch, while the Michelin-starred Candlelight is a gourmet experience not to be missed. All restaurants are child-friendly, with high chairs and dedicated menus available.

One of the highlights of the hotel is undoubtedly the view from the pool, and the direct access to the long sandy beach. This is a public beach, but of course the hotel provides towels for the day. If the weather doesn’t cooperate, there’s a lovely spa with an indoor pool, jacuzzi and also a lovely view over the bay.

« Hostal La Gavina offers one of the best spots on the sandy beach of S’Agaro »

Hostal La Gavina is a really charming hotel in a great location – one of the best spots on the sandy beach of S’Agaro, a very beautiful coastal town. There is also Sa Conca beach a 10 minute walk from the hotel, which is even bigger. More adventurous families can hire bikes directly from the hotel for a long coastal walk, and why not to the other end of the Costa Brava? The route is simple, so very easy, even with children. And the views!

The hotel is a veritable institution. The decor is classic and elegant, transporting you to a past that is nostalgic, enchanting and timeless. The place is quiet, and the helpful staff provide facilities for children and a babysitting service if you need it. It is perfect for a family getaway for a few days, to enjoy the beautiful area, beach and nature.

We really enjoyed our stay at Hostal La Gavina and would recommend it without hesitation to families looking for a holiday full of sun and indulgence in a place with sublime views.
